The Gottman Method
Our couples counseling providers utilize The Gottman Method. The Gottman Method is a research-based approach to strengthening relationships, developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman. Grounded in decades of studies on what makes relationships thrive, this method focuses on improving communication, building emotional connection, and resolving conflicts effectively. Whether you’re seeking to enhance your relationship or work through challenges, the Gottman Method offers practical, evidence-based tools to help couples grow and flourish together.

Throughout counseling, you will work to achieve each of the following as you learn tools to navigate challenges, deepen your connection, and create a thriving partnership.:

Build Love Maps - Understand each other’s inner worlds by exploring feelings, dreams, fears, and life goals. Love Maps provide the foundation for intimacy and connection.
Share Fondness and Admiration - Foster a positive perspective by expressing appreciation and respect for each other. This level builds emotional intimacy and strengthens your bond.
Turn Toward Instead of Away - Strengthen emotional connection by recognizing and responding to bids for attention, affection, and support. Small moments of connection build trust over time.
Take the Positive Perspective - Develop a mindset of kindness and understanding, where conflicts are approached with empathy and goodwill, reinforcing a sense of partnership.
Manage Conflict - Learn to address disagreements constructively by softening startups, accepting influence, and finding compromise. This level also includes navigating solvable and perpetual problems.
Make Life Dreams Come True - Support each other’s aspirations by encouraging and collaborating on personal and shared goals, creating a sense of purpose and shared meaning.
Create Shared Meaning - Build a life together by cultivating rituals, traditions, and shared values that deepen your connection and create a sense of unity.
